This announcement is confirm that from Round 2 onwards, post-race after the Final heat, the Top-3 motorcycles will be required to open their head for checking of bore and stroke, as well as general engine regulations as listed in the SNF Moto regulations (Click here to view SNF Moto 2013 Regulations).

Any rider that does not submit his bike for inspection and teardown will be automatically disquaified.

Due to the announcement on the 10th April 2013 that polling for the 13th General Election for Malaysia will be held on the 5th of May 2013, we the Organisers have made the decision to postpone Round 2 of SNF 2013 to the 18th of May 2013.

Sepang International Circuit have been graceful to fully support this change, and everything else should be as normal.

The event will continue to run at the Sepang South Circuit.

Other than doing a lot of racing at the good old and sorely missed Batu Tiga Speedway Circuit, we also grew up on a healthy diet of racing at the South Circuit during the early MSS years of 2002-2003. As serious drivers and racers, it’s always been Ignition.my’s interest to want to bring racing to the South Circuit. The natural layout of the track is so much more flowing and high-speed, and rewards a good chassis and powertrain package, driving skills, and quite honestly, balls!

After many years of trying to organise these arrangements, we are finally going to head that way, and if adrenalin and 108 octane flows through your veins, then as a Real Racer you are not going to want to go back to the North after this!

Of course, amenities are different at South Circuit, and it really is back to grassroots-level racing at this level.

FACILITIES INFORMATION

A) Tentage for Rental
We will be assisting to arrange for 20 x 20 ft tentage, which can fit 4 cars / 8 bikes back-to-back, with lighting and a fan.
The price is RM 80 per car / RM 40 per bike.
Please make payment to us or our Registration Agents before 22 April closing date. No late payments accepted, as arrangements need to be done with the supplier.
The area for these tents to be put up is listed in the diagrams below under “Paid Tentage”.

B) General Paddock Layout
Teams are permitted to setup their own personal tentage in the allocated areas. Please refer to the diagram.
20 x 20 ft tentage is not permitted, only the ‘pasar malam’ type personal tentage.
We will be setting up floodlights and spotlights throughout the Paddock area, to light up the allocated areas.
Additional personal low-power generators are permitted.
There is no compressed air.
Tentage setup is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

C) Paddock Access
Entry will be via the South Circuit Entrance, please refer to the layout below.
General parking is not charged.
There is a “Paid Parking” area in front of the Entrance. This will be reserved for Transporters to off-load the race cars. Please instruct your Transporters to drop the cars off here, and then move out.
There is a “Premium Parking” area inside the Paddock. This is RM 50.00 and is first come first serve basis, limited to 50 cars.

D) Administration
Registration will be open the usual hours from 2pm till 430pm. Registration will be at the Security Entrance to the South Circuit.
Pre-Race Safety Scrutineering will be held at a tent by the DB box area. Please look out for the signage.
Race Control will be at the Ground Floor of the Cabin.
General administration will have a tent next to the Cabin. This is where the Drivers/Riders Briefing will be held at 530pm.

E) Traffic Flow and Gridding
The green arrows in the diagram refer to the traffic flow.
The Holding Bay, and Gridding Bay, will be located next to the main PitLane.

F) Others
Up until 530pm, your non-competition cars will be permitted into the Premium Parking area to drop off tools and setup. After 530pm it’s requested that these cars are cleared off, or we will tow them away. Our Marshals will be pushing your cars out.
Please park your non-competition cars outside. From the entrance, it’s just a short 100m walk through the tunnel under Turn 12 into the South Paddock.
There is the usual MakCik Gerai operating. The Gerai will be located next to the Admin tent, with a view to Turn 9!
There will be Portable Toilets for Ladies use. Men will use the existing toilets.
Children are not allowed onto the Pitlane area, which will be demarcated with barriers (refer to diagrams)
Podium ceremony will take place infront of the Cabin.

After 3 years of racing at the North Circuit, it’s time for a new challenge, a new visual spectacle, a new sensual experience. Welcome, to the Sepang South Circuit!

Sepang South Circuit was the home of MSS racing back in the early 2000′s, where it’s exciting, flowing turns and landscape provided a natural arena for spectators to view the best saloon car racing in the country at the time. The Proton Track Carnival was also run at the South Circuit in 2004, which was pretty huge back then.

Now, we return to this hallowed ground with SNF, where only the best of drivers, cars, and bikes can give their best, in the process putting on a great show! The racing is naturally closer, and power plays less of role.

From the Grandstand, you can view the WHOLE circuit! Best spectating area is actually opposite the Paddock, where you can catch the out-braking action into Turn 9, and the cars flying through the high-speed off-camber Turn 12 which is taken at over 130kmh!

From the Paddock, it’s even more incredible as you can get up close to Turn 9 and also Turn 12, viewing through the fencing.

SPECTATING INFORMATION

A) Grandstand Access and Parking
The Grandstand area will actually feature an SNF AutoShow, information as in the flyer attached below! Entry is only RM 10, and parking outside is not charged. Enter via the usual Grandstand entry, and the ticketing booth will be at the Security Gate into the SIC Welcome Centre.
There will be food and music as well, and a LUCKY DRAW with a brand new BLACKBERRY phone to be won!!!
Gates open from 5pm onwards.

SNF AutoShow will be at the Grandstand area, with a BLACKBERRY to be won!

B) Paddock Parking
Entry will be via the South Circuit Entrance, please refer to the layout below.

The opening round of the 2013 Saturday Night Fever series got off to a hot and fiery start with the new SNF Moto categories creating a lot of interest and excitement, and the unfortunate incident of a racing car catching fire on the front straight.

A total of 22 motorcycles of 135cc and 150cc took part in the inaugral SNF Moto race, which was a new challenge for the motorcycle racers as SNF is held at night at the Sepang Circuit North track. 2 heats of a 5 laps each provided a short but exciting race with plenty of thrills and spills.

SNF Moto saw exciting machines and daredevil riders!

Veteran motorcycle racer Kenny Lee made a comeback from a fall in Lap 3 of the Qualifying Heat to win the 150cc category Final. “Even with the additional spotlights, the rear section is a bit dark and I just went too quickly and lost sight of where the circuit went!” explains Kenny. For the Final heat, Kenny started from the back, but was up to 2nd by the end of Lap 1, then took the lead into Turn 1 of Lap 2 and was never surpassed, taking a very popular win.

A hot race literally turned fiery for Team Kazzen, competing in Race Cars Class 2 with their Toyota Levin AE111. First driver Muzamil Mohd, a racer of many an MME and Sepang 1000km race, took 4th in the qualifying heat. 2nd driver Ghazi Fawwaz took over for the Final heat, and was heading for a well fought 4th place when a fire started in the engine bay from Turn 6. “I didn’t think too much of it, and was concentrating on getting to the chequered flag!” mentions Ghazi. By the time he made it to the flag, the ‘little fire’ had turned into a conflagration, the car crossing the line with the nose ablaze, Ghazi quickly exiting from the burning vehicle.

The fire truck was quickly on the scene, and the fire extinguished with no drama. “A fuel line to the fuel regulator burst it’s seams, causing the fire,” said car-owner Muzamil. “We’ll repair it, and will be back for Round 2!” For their effort, Team Kazzen officially finished 4th in class, bringing home a trophy.

Badrul and Alif's Evos go head-to-head in SuperStreet

In the SuperStreet category, experienced racer Keifli Othman set a new SNF North Circuit lap-record of 1-min 13.861s enroute to the inaugural win together with Badrul Hisham. Keifli took the lead with a big move on N1 Racing’s Desmond Yee around the outside of Turn 1, and from there onwards extended his lead to 8-seconds at the flag as Desmond had to defend against an early onslaught from World Time Attack runner-up, Alif Hamdan and his fire-breathing Evolution 6.

The Campro category saw the competitive return of veteran driver Roland Ooi in the MatSpeed Waja. Roland, previously a Saga Champion back in the 1990s at Batu Tiga Speedway, was looking forward to some quick, affordable racing fun and mentioned, “SNF is the simplest and easiest event for me to enjoy racing again!”

With SNF-specialist Kesavamoorthy taking the win in the qualifying heat and skilled-racer Azlan Rabu taking the hotseat in the DNT Tune Gen2, we were expecting fireworks in the Campro final. Kesavamoorthy is has proven to be a no-holds-barred driver, and Roland Ooi is well-known as a hard racer: and in the first lap, all three cars were scything through traffic in the first turns in their assault to reach the top step of the podium, Kesavamoorthy taking the early lead.

Intense racing all night long at SNF

In his pursuit of Kesavamoorthy and Azlan Rabu, Roland Ooi set a new lap record for Campro with a blistering 1m 22.598 in lap 2. Alas Kesavamoorthy’s car suffered a technical malady in Lap 3 just as all three cars started their battle, and had to pull off, his race over. Meanwhile, Azlan was pulling out all the stops and drove superbly to keep a charging Roland behind, but heading into Turn 4 for the fourth time, Azlan outbraked himself slightly, giving Roland the slightest of gaps but it was the opportunity he needed: as he made his move, both cars touched, but Roland was through. From then on, his tyres hot from the early action, Azlan pushed hard but it was Roland past the flag first.

Next round is 4 May, and for the first time in 3-years SNF will head to Sepang’s South Circuit for a change of scenery and a new challenge. With or without a burning car, it’s sure to be a hot night of action: don’t miss it!

Will this beast make it to SNF?

My colleague Zahrin posted in our Bahasa Malaysia website SNF.my that it’s going to be a nightmare for SuperStreet this year with the hiring (yes, hiring! SNF is reaching Semi-Pro levels!) of local superstar driver and good friend of mine Keifli Othman. Rumour has it that Keifli has been roped in as 2nd driver for 2013 to Badrul Hisham and his Freddie-Kruger-Green-liveried Evo 8, as Badrul rises to the challenge of taking on top SuperStreet contender Desmond Yee of N1 Racing and his “Little Green Turtle” FD2R. Errr.. did someone say it’s turbocharged for this year?

But that’s not all folks, further pitlane rumours for SuperStreet include:
- Yes, Alif Hamdan is racing SNF this year. This on top of racing a 2012 Porshe GT3 Cup car in MSS. The question is: will he be bringing back his World Time Attack Evo??
-  KK Soh has commissioned a 2L EK9 roadcar for Team Type-R, to be driven by either himself or Boy Wong. Woahh!
- GME Racing will be contending a (rumoured) 400hp EK9 B20 turbo, piloted by none other than Suhaimi Mitod. Foowaarrh!
- And don’t overlook Avantech, who’ll be racing in SuperStreet this year after smacking the 1.8 boys in the final SNF round of 2012 in their turbocharged EG Civic!

Come on man. I wanna see a BMW E30 4.4L V8 in SuperStreet, then I can die in peace..

Let’s go in-car with Keifli: if you wanna learn to drive quick, watch King Keifli kick butt in this video! FYI the quickest and best drivers are always the smoothest.

No need for words, the schedule is above, and below is the layout for the Ticketing and Registration area when you arrive. We have arranged it so that it’s easier to navigate, you can’t simply park anywhere anymore. Get your registration done quickly then head in to the Paddock and up to Pit 3 for Scrutineering.

For Spectators, it’s straight forward: park you car in the lanes, and head over to the ticketing booths where we’ll be selling tickets and parking passes. Grandstand as usual, you enter via the tunnel at the entrance near the pit exit.

Jazeman Jaafar will inch closer to realising his lifelong dream next month when he climbs into the cockpit and drives a Formula One™ car for the first time. Jazeman has been given the honour of driving the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS demo car at a special demonstration run event to be held in Kuala Lumpur on 17th March, ahead of the 2013 FORMULA 1™ PETRONAS MALAYSIA GRAND PRIX.

The PETRONAS event in the heart of Kuala Lumpur will give Jazeman a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase his talent behind the wheels of a MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ car, with the stunning backdrop of the iconic PETRONAS Twin Towers. Jazeman will share driving duties at this event with MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Development Driver, Sam Bird.

Jazeman says, “It’s difficult to describe the emotions I had when I was told by PETRONAS that I would be given the chance to drive the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team; I’m happy, excited, proud and impatient for 17th March! I am very grateful to PETRONAS for their support and putting their faith in me to put on a good show at this special event.
He continues, “As there won’t be an opportunity for me to drive the car before the KL event, I’m preparing by working with the team on the simulator alongside my Renault 3.5 Series programme, but to be making my ‘F1 driving debut’ behind the wheel in front of a home crowd will be just totally awesome.”

Jazeman, a PETRONAS Talent Programme driver, will be racing in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series this season, a move up from the British F3 championship which he has been competing in for the last three years. His ultimate goal is to be racing in F1, but before he reaches this pinnacle of motor racing, he needs to race in lower formulas to keep learning his craft and gain more racing experience.

Jazeman explains, “I’m only 20 years old and I’ve been racing in single-seaters for six years, working my way up the ladder of racing categories, learning, improving, experiencing more technical and more powerful cars. I am capable of driving an F1 car within the parameters of a demonstration run and really looking forward to it, but it will be a couple of years before I can consider looking for a full-time race driving position in F1. I’m sure that this ‘taster’ of driving an F1 car will add to my determination to reach F1 and it will be an amazing experience.”

Please refer to para 3.3 of the SNF Technical Regulations for cars:
“if wheels protrude beyond bodywork additional wheel arches MUST be installed. Wheel arches must cover from top of wheel & tire and reach to the bottom of vehicle floorpan level.”

Please be informed that there is no compromise on safety in SNF. This is a regulation that is enforced worldwide in touring car, GT cars, and any form of saloon formula door-to-door racing. If the wheels touch, the car will fly up into the air, simple as that. You’ve seen it in F1 many times now.

When an F1 car flies this high like Ralf did in Melbourne 2002, it's because they've launched off another car's tyres. Nothing else makes an F1 car fly this high!

Thus below are examples of what is and what is not permitted:

THIS IS NOT PERMITTED. Rallycars do not go door-to-door, so their arches are not required to extend till the floor.

This is how it's done in BTCC. The extended arches go all the way down and completely cover the wheel.

And another BTCC example. This is a DC5, so it's a bit more common to SNF. Flared arches all the way to the floor.

And lastly, a local SNF example: this is ProDrag's car. We got them to make improvements to close the wheel, and you can see that small flap that extends the arch from the top to connect to the bottom. Very nicely done.

The Saturday Night Fever Series will get underway this weekend for it’s 3rd incredible year of re-introducing affordable  door-to-door club-level racing for Malaysians. SNF is all about motorracing for the masses, and in the past 2.5 years that it has been running, has been successful in creating a safe yet highly competitive affordable racing environment.

As the Championship series looks towards further growth of it’s exciting formula, SNF event organisers and promoters Ignition.my are introducing new aspects both in terms of safety as well as challenge.

To aid racer’s visibility at the ‘half-circuit chutes’, newly-made spotlights will be placed strategically at these dark and narrow sections. Previously, drivers have mentioned that the key to getting a good lap at these points would be a bit of a leap of faith: “Brake, turn-in, and pray you got it right!” was the popular claim by the top drivers!

More interestingly is that SNF will feature 3 or 4 rounds of racing at the South-track loop of Sepang circuit, providing new challenges, as SNF had previously been a wholly North-track activity. The South-track section is generally acknowledged to be a more flowing, higher speed layout, with up to 4 definitive over-taking points as compared to only 2 real over-taking points on the North Circuit.

In a bid to further expand the adrenalin rush of door-to-door racing to new drivers, SNF will feature a 2-driver 1-hour Enduro race in the middle of the season, whereby the 2nd driver on the team must not be an SNF regular. As refuelling and tyre changes will not be permitted, teams will need to work out a strategy to get them to the finish line. It is hoped that more enthusiasts will get to feel and enjoy the excitement of SNF racing this way, as they are able share in the both vehicle and team strategy and preparation.

But the most prominent new addition to SNF for 2013 are new categories for Motorbikes, starting off with two classes for the majority of motorcycles out there blazing the street on weekend nights: the SNF 135 category for 2-stroke motorcycles up to 135cc and 4-stroke motorcycles up to 200cc, and the SNF 150 category for 2-stroke motorcycles up to 150cc and 4-stroke motorcycles up to 250cc.

As it’s a brand new category, we’re not sure what to expect but we do know that to date almost 20 bikes have already signed up, and we are fielding many enquiries from even some of the Cub Prix teams which are planning to use SNF as a sort of “talent search” and “R&D” environment.

The Cars categories are also due for a shake-up, as there are new competitors joining the fray: some experienced racing drivers, some highly-successful drag racing teams. The highly-contagious addiction of SNF racing seems to be spreading! Having said that, the existing teams and Champions are not going to take it sitting down and we’ve heard that some incredible technical investments and innovations are being made by the incumbent SNF brigade in preparation for the coming war.

Ticket prices for spectators remain the same at RM 30.00 for Paddock access, and RM 10.00 for Grandstand seating.

Some important items to highlight as we head towards Round 1 of SNF 2013 this coming weekend, which will also answer a couple of queries that have been put forward these past few weeks:

1: Fire Extinguishers
- now required for 2013. We have not specified any particular specifications, thus at minimum a spray can-type Fire Extinguisher with holder which can be cable-tied to your rollcage is good enough.
- No Fire Extinguisher, No Race bro!

2: NOS update
- Nitrous Oxide is only permitted in SuperStreet category, and Racing Cars Class 1 category.

3:  Competition Numbers
- For those that have registered their numbers and designs with us, please go ahead and produce / prepare them for this coming round

4: Named SNF Championship driver 
- Please decide on your which name will be the Registered Championship driver. This will have an effect on the SNF 1-hour Enduro race which will take place later this year (either Round 3 or Round 4, to be confirmed)
- As mentioned in the regulations, the 2nd Driver for the Enduro must not be a current named SNF Championship driver. Named SNF Championship Drivers from other categories are also not permitted to be the 2nd Driver for another category
- However, a 2nd Driver for a team in one category, may be 2nd Driver for another car team in a different category example 2nd driver for Desmond Yee in SuperStreet, and then 2nd driver for SinghBoy in Special Kei.

5: Fuel Surge Tanks
- Surge Tanks will be permitted from Round 3 onwards.
- However, these will be required to be inspected and certified beforehand to ensure that the quality of material, the design of the tank, the electrical assembly, and the quality and type of hoses used is acceptable. Inspection dates will be published in the following weeks, once we have released the design specifications for this item
- What we can tell you now and what will be incorporated into the Surge Tank ASR Regulations:

Fuel Lines: all lines must be fitted in such a way that any leakage cannot result;
Fuel Pumps: are free except they may not be mounted in Driver compartment. The fuel pumps must shut off when the engine stops running and the fuel pumps may have a by-pass system for start-up;
Isolation: have a bulkhead between any fuel tank and filler and the driver/passenger compartment sufficient to prevent the passage of flame or liquid. Where a fuel tank constitutes part of the bulkhead between the passenger and luggage compartments, an additional bulkhead must be fitted;
Cut-off: These must be equipped with an effective method of stopping fuel supply and operable by the driver when normally seated. This to be combined with or located adjacent to the internal ignition cut-off switch;
Tanks: every effort should be made to isolate fuel tanks and pipes from the driver/passenger compartment. It must be designed in such a way that fuel spillage is minimal in the event of accident damage. Tanks should be located so that they are given maximum protection by the structure of the vehicle. Vents should be designed to avoid spillage if the vehicle becomes inverted.

FUEL SURGE TANK MUST BE ISOLATED FROM THE CABIN WITH A SECONDARY BULKHEAD IF NO BULKHEAD EXISTS.

Ignition.my-RCA Track Day SUNDAY 7th April 2013, 9am – 11am & 11am – 1pm

A double-header track day session, 2hrs per session. Pick and choose or go for both, the decision is yours! This way, we get to better control the number of participants per session.

Participation fee is our 2013 2-hours standard of RM330/SGD135.
BUT we have the EarlyBird offer (first 30 cars only) for an incredible RM 300/SGD120 only!
And if you want to whack BOTH sessions, we have a package of only RM 560/SGD225 (limited to 20 cars only).

We’re looking at 70 cars per session, so be quick to make your booking because as usual our track days are full very quickly. As was seen during our last New Year’s Track Day and the previous MegaLAP ClubSPRINT, we will be strict about it: we are not going to accept anything once the quota is full.

January 12th 2013 saw a total of 15 cars from the BMW Club Malaysia together with a couple of their friends in other cars participate in the Ignition.my course for “Introduction to Vehicle Dynamics & Limit Handling” at Shah Alam Stadium Carpark. It was a mix of all types of cars, and with a lady driver as well (who did very well indeed!).

The weather played its part thankfully, with overcast skies for most of the day up till about past lunchtime. Speaking of which, the 4 barrels of KFC fried chicken went down pretty quick when you have 15 ravishing drivers pumped with adrenalin!

The course introduced the participants to
- Skid Control at 70 km/h
- Braking Avoidance at 70 km/h
- Lane change at 80 km/h
- Staggered Gate Slalom at 80 km/h

And we finished the day with a little Autocross competition as a culmination of all that they observed through the day’s activities.

The Schedule for the first ClubSPRINT Time Attack event sees a change to 1 x 55 minute timed sessions in order to reduce traffic movement at the Parking area.

MAIN POINTS

Introduction of categories for Motorcycles
- We are introducing 2 new categories: SNF 135 and SNF 150
- SNF 135 is for 2-stroke bikes up to 135cc or 4-stroke bikes up to 200cc
- SN F150 is for 2-stroke bikes up to 150cc or 4-stroke bikes up to 250cc

Categories for Cars
- SuperStreet will no longer have it’s sub-categories; all types of driveline formats and capacities and whatever are permitted for SuperStreet: basically a free-for-all Street car race!
- The 1.8 VTEC/Turbo category is open to Normally-Aspirated VTEC engines, as well as forced-induction non-VTEC engines. Turbocharged VTEC engines are not permitted, and are advised to race in SuperStreet.
- Small-volume and kit-cars below 1800cc do not qualify for the 1.8 category, nor Class 2 of Racing Cars category. For street cars, it is advised to race in SuperStreet. For Racing Cars, they will be classified under Class 1.
- Please be informed that para 2.1.1 of the Technical Regulations states “Organiser’s decision to accept or decline a car’s categorisation shall be final”. If any particular vehicle shows any signs of significant advantage over the rest of the field, we hold the right to move the entry to a higher or larger capacity category classification.
- These changes are to keep the competition tight between participating vehicles, such that no one particular vehicle may hold a significant advantage over the rest of the participating field.

Entry Fee
- Entry Fee for cars is RM 350 + RM 100 transponder deposit
- Entry Fee for bikes is RM 150 + RM 100 transponder deposit
- Entries OPEN 1 month before event and CLOSE 3 days before ( Wednesday). Thursday & Friday are LATE entry, and will require an additional RM200 late-entry fee
- No entries are accepted on event day.

Race Format
- For cars there will be 6 Sprint rounds featuring 2 heats of 8 laps each
- And 1 compulsory Enduro round, which will be 1-hour endurance race for 2 drivers for all categories  except Mini and Special Kei. For these other 2 categories, they will run a double-header 2 heats of 25-minutes.
- It is compulsory for both drivers to drive in the Enduros. Tyre changes and refuelling not permitted during the 1-hour race. The 2nd driver must not be a Championship contender for the 2013 SNF Championship.
- The Enduro will be either Round 3 in June or Round 4 in August. The final date will be announced in March.

Tyres
- For Racing Cars, full slicks are no longer permitted. This change is to help reduce the cost of competing and being competitive
- For bikes, only street tyres are permitted

Competition Numbers for Cars
- SNF cars will be allowed to choose and lock-in a competition number for the whole year. A personalised Competition Number design ala NASCAR is also permitted. The dimensions for your design should be within an A4-sized paper in Landscape (length-wise) format.
- Please submit your designs via email (general@ignition.my) for verification and approval by our side. Any font and colour is permitted, although it is important that the design is legible and readable from a distance. Glow in the dark and reflective numbering stickers are encouraged.
- We will provide the number sticker backing, you make your own number sticker!
- For those that do not wish to make their own competition numbers, you can log-in your preferred numbers with us asap and they will be locked-in. We will issue 1 set of basic font black number stickers at the beginning of the season.

Sticker sets
- Only 1 pair (left-right) of white A4-sized backing sticker for the competition number will be provided by us at the beginning of the season.
- Only 1 set of windscreen and number stickers provided for the year
- Additional orders are RM 10 per set number stickers; RM 15 per set windscreen stickers

SNF Championship
- For cars, a minimum participation and points scoring of 4 of the Sprint rounds and a compulsory entry in the SNF Enduro is necessary in order to qualify for the SNF Championship at the end of the season
- For Bikes, a participation in a minimum of 5 rounds is necessary
