V8 Supercars: 50th Bathurst 1000 serves up a thriller

6 hours, and only 0.321 second separated the 1st and 2nd placed cars. That’s the kind of kick ass action Bathurst 1000 served up in 2012. To top it off 19 cars finished on the same lap. I’ve raced in MME 12 hours and Sepang 1000km and we never have this kind of close finish. V8 Supercars ROCK!!

Eventual winners Jamie Whincup and co driver Paul Dumbrell held of attacks from several challengers to hang on to the lead and take their first win as a pair. Indeed it was Dumbrell’s 1st and Whincup’s 4th Bathurst win.

British F3: Jazeman Jaafar finishes 2nd overall

The rush to Redgate, Jazeman in 3rd

Jazeman celebrated two podium finishes at the final round of the 2012 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series to take the accolade of Vice-Champion in the overall British F3 Drivers’ Championship. A second place finish for Jazeman in the first race preceded a non-finish in the second race after being punted off track by Alex Lynn. Crossing the line in third place in the final race of the weekend sealed the runners-up place in the final standings of the championship for the young Malaysian driver.

The weekend began with a second place finish for the Malaysian driver in the first race, behind Carlin team mate Harvey, which kept him in the lead of the championship at the end of Saturday, although the results closed the gap between the two drivers to just one point, with the other title contender, Felix Serralles, finishing fourth to lie in third place in the championship and still able to wrest the title from Carlin.

Jazeman, with his father supporting as always

Cool and cloudy conditions welcomed the British F3 drivers for the penultimate race of the 2012 season this morning. But however, it was a shortlived race for Jazeman. The 19-year-old Malaysian had a storming start and was challenging Lynn for position, quickly passing him for sixth place. Lynn then tried to retake the position, taking a tight line into the next corner, but with a deflating tyre he locked up his wheels and then crashed into the Malaysian, with the PETRONAS car being tipped up onto two wheels and then spinning across the grass, ending Jaafar’s race.

He said after the race, “I am obviously disappointed to have been taken out in an incident which had such a big impact on my title fight, but reflecting on it, it was a racing incident and I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Alex had a puncture so it was an unavoidable incident; there was nothing he or I could do about it. It doesn’t make it any easier to stomach and I’m still feeling quite raw about it, but there’s no point in dwelling on it, I need to move on and focus on the final race.”

The third and final race of the season, Jazeman had another good start and was snapping at the heels of second placed driver, Alex Lynn. He tried to make a move on Lynn but Lynn held him at bay. In the meantime, championship rival, Harvey led the race and Serralles was in fifth place. As the race settled Lynn began to challenge Harvey for the lead, and Jaafar was close behind. The young Malaysian kept pushing throughout the 28 laps of the race, defending hard from his rivals behind, while also trying to push for second place. Meanwhile, Felix Serralles had moved out of contention for the title after dropping back to eighth place. After 40 minutes of hard racing Jaafar crossed the line in 3rd place.

Of his final race of the season he said, “I had a good start but couldn’t get past Alex (Lynn) in the opening lap and was a bit cautious after what happened in the race this morning. Once the tyres came up to temperature I was able to close up on Alex, who was also closing up on Jack (Harvey) and it was a three-way battle; everyone was quick in that race and anyone could have won it. Jack hung on in there, Alex couldn’t quite catch him and I couldn’t quite get Alex, so we stayed in the same position throughout the race.”

The Winning Team, 1st & 2nd in 2012 British F3

Jazeman’s 3rd place finish brought him 2nd place in the Drivers’ Championship, “It’s been a hard-fought battle in the Drivers’ Championship and I’m really pleased to have finished just behind Jack. It’s been a tough season, full of ups and downs but that doesn’t stop me pushing right to the very end. I’ve enjoyed battling at the front throughout the season and being right on the pace every time I’ve been out on track. The championship wasn’t really decided until the last lap of the last race, so it really couldn’t have been any tighter. In the end I was only 13 points off Jack, I think it’s the closest finish since 1999!”

He adds, “Over the last three years since I’ve been racing in British F3 I’ve matured as a driver and honed my driving skills to be racing harder and getting the results I felt I was capable of achieving. It’s been an exciting journey and each season I’ve been improving. I was 12th in the championship in my first year, sixth last year and now second, so it’s been a great three years of F3.”

Jazeman will now turn his attentions to finalising plans for next season’s racing campaign.

V8 Supercars : Enduro season begins with a Lowndes win

Team Vodafone’s Craig Lowndes with co-driver Warren Luff started the enduro section of 2012 V8 Supercars with win in the Sandown 500. The pair started back but moved up the field to emerge 2nd with the last round of pitstops in the 161 laps race. Amazingly Lowndsey only lead the last 22 laps, and the most important lap, the final one.

Long time race leader, Team Vodafone teammate,  Whincup could only finish 3rd after a late lunge from championship rival Mark Winterbottom moved the Ford driver up to 2nd.

Next round will be the big one, Barthurst 1000

Speedworks Turbokit Innova

Neat Turbokit

What ??? An Innova Turbo. Yes you read it right, an Innova. Speedworks latest turbo kit is for the workhorse Innova. Those who have driven a stock Innova would know how lethargic the 2 litre engine is trying to lug around a big lumbering beast that is the Innova. Well, the Speedworks turbo kit tranforms that beast into something else.

The complete kit includes turbo, intercooler, blow off valve, exhaust system with management system thrown in and additional injectors delivers a whopping 51% increase in power and 56% increase in torque. That’s 56bhp addded on and another 82NM of torque at a mild 0.5 boost. The turbo, being rather large, does take a while to spool up, but once past 3500 rpm it just surges the Innova forward like never before. The wastegate and blowoff valve sounds strange emitting from a Innova but the forward motion is something else.

Intercooler snugly fitted in the bumper

I spy an intercooler

Joining highways from interchange never happened this quick before. In the Turbo Innova you’ll be reaching the national speed limit not far after turning into a highway. All this is ably assisted by the excellent Hot Bits suspension that keeps the Innova from wobbling like Jabba the Hutt.

The entire kit is RM10k with installation.

I did ask Speedworks “Why?” did they developed a kit for the Innova, and the answer was simple. “Because we could” .

VIDEO: V8 Supercars Lowndes makes it 2 out of 2 at Ipswich 300

Craig Lowndes of TeamVodafone made is 2 wins out of 2 races and 5 wins in a row at “The Paperclip”, otherwise known as the Queensland Raceway. He now moves in on FPR drivers and teammate Winchup for the championship battle.

No thanks to ESPN & Starsports showing repeated Olympics highlights ( when the UK is asleep) I had to resort to Youtube to watch the V8s highlight.

Race 16

Race 17 Buka Puasa Track Session 3 Aug 2012

The upcoming track sesion ( track Night) will have a slight difference. We’ll be treating the children form the nearby Orphanage to buka puasa and donations. On top of that the kids will enjoy a lap of the Sepang Circuit.

The Baitus Sakinah Wal Mahabbah, Kota Warisan, Sepang are privately funded and run. There are about 40 children, ranging from 4 yrs old to 12 yrs old,  both boys and girls. As can be seen from the photos the place is sparse and the children are in dire need of clothes and educational books.  Any donations are very welcome.

This is where they sleep

We urge the participant to donate what they can to assist these orphans. Anything is a gift to these kids.

As mentioned in the previous post the Track fees of RM380 includes a buffet Buka Puasa. And those not entering the track session can also join in the Buka Puasa for RM20. To ensure there is sufficient food for all we require buffet payments be made BEFORE the event day. This is to avoid lack of supply on the day.

News: TC Euro Cars delivers 100th Megane RS250

TC Euro Cars this week delivered the 100th Megane RS250 to it’s proud owner , Mr Barani Shanmugam.

A father of 2, Mr Shanmugan  said this of the RS250 “I researched and test drove many performance cars in this segment and nothing came close to the balance of handling and performance of the Megane RS 250. On top of that, the car is great value for money given the high levels of equipment on the car – the RS Monitor, the Brembo Brakes, the Recaro Seats, the Mechanical LSD, Cup Chassis – no other competitor offers all of this in this price range. Also I read a lot of auto magazines and YouTube videos comparing the Megane RS with other performance cars in it’s segment and the Megane beat them all. There is nothing anyone can criticize about the car. It’s just that good!”

He’ll be using his new steed as a daily drive to and from work. I’m pretty sure he’ll have a blast everytime he get’s behind the wheel.

As a bonus of being the 100th owner Mr Shanmugam also received an awesome ORIS TT1 Day Date timepiece to wear proudly on his wrist courtesy of ORIS.

And to top it all off he will receive 2 free 2 private driver training sessions with Kegani Racing, the 2010 S1000km Champions.

Not bad for being the 100th owner eh?
