The Ignition.my editorial team are a handful of knowledgeable and experienced automotive writers with a combined experience of  over 30 years in the automotive journalism sector, OEM automotive industry, and motorsports arena.

Don’t knock us, when it came to setting up this site, we just couldn’t help ourselves: Essentially we have our daytime jobs, but we’re passionate about speed and cars and motorbikes and racing and boats motorsports and planes and of course, the racequeens!

Adian Yein

ADIAN YEIN (adian@ignition.my)

Adian is best known as one of the start-up members that initiated the Proton Motorsports Division back in 2003, together with Tengku Djan Ley and Khaidi Kamaruddin, running under the brand name R3 – Race Rally Research. Projects that he led include the Proton Satria R3, Lotus Europa, and all the R3 special edition vehicles up to 2007, where he then transferred to Proton Edar for an 8-month stint as Manager for Marketing Development. He has over 12 years of motorsports experience, both as driver and team manager, culminating in two back-to-back wins of the Merdeka Millennium Endurance race as the Team Manager of the Proton-R3 team.

Highlights in his motorsports career include being a D1GP Judge opposite Drift King, Keiichi Tsuchiya, kicking off the malaysian autocross and drifting scene with the Proton SSO, and managing Team Proton-R3′s participation in the Japan Super GT in 2005. Adian was also the host of the car test drive and review television program “Get A Car” that aired on NTV7 in 2009. He was previously a driving instructor for the now defunct SIDRA (Sepang International Driving & Racing Academy), and now instructs and organises track days under RCA (RaceCraft Academy Singapore).

FAISAL ASRI (faisalasri@ignition.my)

Faisal Asri

Faisal Asri has been a car-nerd all his life. To an extent, we all are I suppose, and to be fair to him there’s nothing wrong with keeping 20-year old copies of the now defunct CAR magazine under your matrimonial Queen-size bed.

He has been actively racing since the mid-90s, starting in karts and then moving up to saloon cars, apexing with a works drive for Honda Racing in the 2008 12-hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance race. At one-time working with Proton Motorsports Division (R3) as Project Executive, he was involved in many of the R3 Limited Edition cars.

Due to his background in motorsports, Faisal is regularly seen at the circuits giving advanced driving instruction or at the R/C Drift events as Chief Judge. He can be a rather offensive when it comes to discussing anything automotive, as his vast knowledge and inflammable passion leads him to loath anyone who disrespects vehicles! But it is this same drive which makes him a great person to have on our team.
